SADSAWU applauds NEDLAC and is urging their government to speed up the process. The South African government and its partners was a leading force in the negotiations in June 2011 at the ILO conference. This will be indeed a celebration for all domestic workers in South Africa and the World on the 16th June 2012, if South Africa ratifies this Convention 189 and all other African countries will do the same.

SOUTH AFRICA -

In a recent press statement the South African Domestic Service & Allied Workers Union (SADSAWU) expresses that domestic workers are overjoyed about the news that on the 25th May 2012, The National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC) social partners supported the ratification of ILO Convention 189 which will have to be signed by the Minister of Labour after it will go through the Parliamentary process.

Although South Africa has the Labour laws within the world for domestic workers, SADSAWU urges the need for ratification of Convention 189 to ensure that domestic work is decent work.
