GLOBAL -
The Global Fairness Initiative is a not- for-profit international organization that promotes a more equitable, sustainable approach to economic development, ensuring that benefits and prosperity are extended to all people, including the working poor. Each year the Global Fairness Initiative selects multiple honorees, at least one from the grass-tops who has enabled and supported marginalized communities and at least one from the grassroots who has led communities in building a stronger voice and finding a place in our global community. Together, these honorees highlight the power of bringing together top-down opportunity and bottom-up leadership to drive change.
The Global Fairness Initiative announced in August this year that Myrtle Witbooi, a leading labor rights activist on behalf of Domestic Workers, would be honored with the 2015 Fairness Award.
Presentation of Myrtle Witbooi at the 6th Annual Fairness Award on November 2, 2015:
"C189 should not be a piece of paper -- so we formed the International Domestic Workers Federation -- a voice for the voiceless, a home for all domestic workers. This award is in honor of all domestic workers who are still voiceless. I am accepting this award on behalf of those without a voice. Fairness Award must remind us the struggle is not over. We need to speak up. If I could do it in Apartheid, anyone can do it."
