1.0.       INTRODUCTION

Conservation, Hotels, Domestic, Social Services and Consultancy Workers Union (CHODAWU) with the support of IDWF conducted a two-day workshop under the Project Securing Economic Rights for Informal Women Workers (Domestic workers) in Dodoma Municipality on 25th -26th September, 2015.

1.1.         Objectives of the activity

The activity was organized with these objectives:

1.1.1.   To explain and train Domestic workers Local Government Leaders on the Current Situation of Domestic Workers in Tanzania: Including Rights and Protections of Domestic workers

1.1.2.   To train and inform Domestic workers Local Government Leaders on Labour Laws in Tanzania.

1.1.3.   To train domestic workers Local Government Leaders on Organizing and Leadership skills

1.1.4.   To train domestic workers and Local Government Leaders on Convention 189 and the need to campaign for its ratification.

1.1.5.   To Develop an Action Plan for the coming domestic workers activities

1.2.         Participants

Participants were 73, of whom women were 57 and 16 men; among them 54 were domestic workers, 10 Local Government Leaders, 4 Media officials, and CHODAWU Officials (5).

1.3.         OUTCOME OF THE WORKSHOP

1.3.1.   Participants were trained on Current Situation of Domestic Workers in Tanzania: Including Rights and Protections of Domestic workers, Labour Laws in Tanzania, Organizing and Leadership skills and Convention 189

1.3.2.   Domestic workers branch was established

1.3.3.   Domestic workers Representatives were elected to represent 10 streets.

1.3.4.   Radio, Television and newspaper covered the event.

1.3.5.   Domestic workers Women Committee was established

1.3.6.   55 domestic workers joined the union

1.3.7.   All participants agreed strongly to organize domestic workers who are not members to join

1.3.8.   Domestic workers leaders together with Local Government Leaders were given CHODAWU Constitutions.

1.3.9.   Local Government Leaders agreed to support domestic workers and coordinate activities where need arise

1.3.10.      Local government leaders agreed to publicize agenda for domestic workers in their public meetings

1.3.11.      Action plan was developed
