History

In 2012, Gharelu Kaamgar Sangathan (GKS), Gurgaon was formed as a platform for domestic workers to fight for their rights as workers with dignity.  Gharelu Kaamgar Sangathan (GKS) Gurgaon started with the problems faced by unaccounted domestic workers in Gurgaon region of Haryana state.  The need was felt to organize domestic workers in Gurgaon, as no organization in Haryana represents them.   From 2013 formal membership was introduced to the domestic workers.  The organization grew in strength and membership with time. Currently, it covers 6 areas of Gurgaon where there is high concentration of domestic workers Sikanderpur, Nathupur, Chakkerpur, Carterpuri village,  Rajeev Nagar and South City 1.

Presently, the area committee and the General Committee for Gurgaon epitomizes its leadership and representation in different forums for domestic workers.  The organization joined National Platform for Domestic Workers in 2013 and in June 2014 it became a coalition partner of Domestic Workers Coalition Delhi/NCR demanding a national legislation for Domestic workers.
