TANZANIA -

Dar-es-Salam – The trade union of Tanzania including the Conservation, Hotels, Domestic and Allied Workers Union (CHODAWU) organized a symposium dealing with equal participation of women in democratic governance.

This event whose guest of honour was the Minister of Constitution was attended by two domestic workers and Regional Coordinator Vicky Kanyoka.

The issue of domestic workers was reflected in the speech of Dr. Stefano, Director of FES, who acknowledged the effort done by CHODAWU and IDWN in pushing for adoption and lobbying the ILO Convention (C189) for ratification.

The CHODAWU official pledged to women that equal participation should now turn to women who have been exploited in the world of work, such as women workers in the rural areas, including domestic workers who come to work in the cities. She pledged to them to support domestic workers in Tanzania by sending comments to the committee of constitution and supporting the ratification.

She was supported by an ILO official who spoke about decent work, explained to the audience the C189 and plegded to the audience to support domestic workers in their campaign for ratification.
