During the 3 days, the participants exchanged information on how they organize and communicate with their members. We held training specifically on communication skills, trade union principles and strategic planning methods. Also, the participants had a chance to visit the housing project for domestic workers in Cape Town. A full report of the workshop will be released in soon.
At the workshop, the participants heard about a tragic story of a Sri Lankan domestic worker working in Saudi Arabia. She was sexually assaulted in November at work and sentenced to death penalty through an unjust legal system. We were all outraged by such an act of injustice and agreed unanimously to support the Sri Lankan domestic worker to fight for justice. Each and every participant signed a Domestic Worker’s Declaration to demand the Saudi Arabian government guarantee freedom to the Sri Lankan domestic worker and allow her to return to her country safely.
