RWANDA -

Overall purpose of training a cadre of domestic worker educators

Since the establishment of the International Domestic Workers Network in Africa, (AfDWN) in 2013, IDWF affiliated unions in the sub-region have had a number of capacity building activities. The first phase of sub regional training was done for the English speaking IDWF affiliates in Kampala –Uganda in 13-16, October 2016.

This is the next phase of the sub-region’s training for the French affiliates to be conducted in Kigali –Rwanda from 23 October -26 October 2017. The objective is to build a pool of committed educators who can contribute to building strong democratic domestic workers’ unions.

Workshop Aims:

  • To review and practice using the IDWF draft: “Planning for Empowerment and Change: a Manual for domestic workers and their organizations” Training for trainers’ manual.
  • To reflect on the principles, values and practice of workers education and our role as trade union education activists.
  • To build our facilitation skills and confidence to train union leaders and members as we strengthen domestic worker organisation.
  • To plan the implementation of workers education in action in the sub-region.

2017-10-23~26 Rwanda: IDWF Africa Training of Trainers Workshop for the French affiliates

On the second day, the domestic workers' leaders from French Trade unions continued to practically facilitate before their colleagues while few of them are noting down some comments. This was  first group composed mostly with young domestic workers who were dressed in Rwanda national dress and they facilitated.

Everyone was involved in the training. 

The Topics was: "Developing a successful organizing campaign plan".
