HONG KONG -

Call for Action on International Migrants' Day

International Migrants' Day is on 18th December.

Hong Kong Federation of Asian Domestic Workers is going to organize a protest on 20th December (Sunday) to demand that the governments of different countries should shoulder the responsibility of protecting foreign domestic workers.

The United Nations passed the International Convention on the Protection of theRights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families on 18th December 1990 and set this day as "International Migrants' Day" in 2000.

The Convention marked that the rights of migrants has been getting more attention and countries should improve the situation.

There are 330,000 foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong and the HKSAR government and their home countries should improve their working conditions. The HKSAR government has promised several times to monitor agencies more closely but nothing has been done so far. We demand the governmental measures to monitor agencies and to stop them from overcharging, as well as the termination of all discriminatory policies against domestic workers.

We are going to organize a protest on 20th December

and call YOU who support migrant domestic workers to join us.
