November 25 Day of Non-violence Against Women

We as women domestic workers are probably the group of women who suffer more violence. Friendly workers, the violence they are subjected is varied and often we do not realize. Here denounce some of the most common acts of violence to which we are exposed:

Legal violence

The law does not recognize that we have rights as other workers, while other employees are entitled to eight (8) hours of work, overtime pay, working hours established minimum wage, health insurance, insurance in case of accident labor, maternity, and we take away those rights; so we have to work without a Jordanian established working; no schedules, work an average of 15-16 hours a day, twice as provided for other workers / as without being paid overtime. We do not have health insurance, or accident, or childbirth leave entitlements.

We have to work on public holidays (holidays), and work life without vesting or settlement does not have a minimum wage set at each employing family offers what you think, also recognizes the right breast Easter to end of the year royalty.

So we are going life without recognizing that we are human beings with the same rights as other workers.

Social and workplace violence

Most social violence is believed that the work we do has no value, and so we were treated with contempt, to the point that many of us feel ashamed to be domestic workers.

We are abused both physically words, insult us, slander, often accuse us of thieves when they want us to pay or want to humiliate us. When the worker is young violence is even higher, to the point of beating them and raping end.

Feature of our time without consulting us, when our days off we have to work, ie that we are denied the right to rest because we can not even take an hour break between work and another, yet not our time is respected free.

We impose tasks (jobs) that do not touch us without paying us a penny more, and if we refuse to treat us fired or worse. We call it dirty, gross, sunfish, plane, crickets, gurgucias, Gumarra or any other derogatory name that comes to mind.

Our privacy is violated when they read our letters, listen to our phone conversations, find out about our intimate relationships, we checked the room or call us at midnight.

You are subjected to the most inhuman isolation and that we can share with our children, family, friends; often not even let us share with other workers.

We spend time to prevent self-care, we have to swim quickly, let alone taking time to wash your hair, cleanse the nails, etc., and the worst thing is that after we call dirty. Injustice, violence is so great that we can not even get sick or pregnant because we cast out of the house as any animal shows.

Sexual Violence

A sexual violence we are exposed all the women, elderly, young, black, white, rich or poor ... all no matter how one views, occupation, or where we are, can occur in our homes, in the street, at work etc.

Violence against women can be hidden and go without us noticing, so we have a long list of violence as:

  • The pounding or beating husbands and boyfriends provide women. Society (men and women) justify men come to the point of killing women when they want to continue to endure, there are many cases where even children are killed to make women suffer, in cases of less extreme husbands take to the woman of the house or put on uncertainty (anxiety) by threatening to remove them from their homes, take the children, take their belongings. Another widely used remedy is to take away the children or refusing to mantenérselos.
  • Sexual harassment in the workplace, ie the patterns we fall in love, feel entitled to touch us or do any act of that nature with which we do not agree.
  • Sexual violence can take many forms, even when there is no impact or penetration, and as stated above can occur anywhere. Most people think that sexual violence only occurs in the street and always rapists are unknown men, but that's not true because we are often raped by relatives, friends, neighbors, and very often those who violate us are our husbands and boyfriends, because if we want to have no sex and breasts compels the way it is, that is violence.
  • Other forms of very frequent but less recognized sexual violence as violence are:
  • The psychological pressures (summons) from our husbands or boyfriends when they are forced to have sex with them saying for example, "you do not love me" or "you've got another man."
  • The insults of men when we say that women are not good for anything, we are bad, gross, ugly, boring, cold etc.
  • A particular form of violence are compliments, because we know that every human being needs some time to be flattered, but how and how often they are "complimented" must make us think that the compliments are merely a expression of the woman's body is considered a sex symbol, "one thing" and every man believes in the right to comment on our bodies as if we walked all the time seeking the approval of men to know how we are, a way to realize that is violence is offensive, humiliating compliments, which are the majority and that men may walk as you think without being harassed by women.
  • There is much more on violence such as: Why so much violence ?, What is its origin ?, false beliefs about violence in general and specifically on violence, how violence confront? What to do in case of sexual violence? Etc. On all these issues we can talk and share.
